Blood Label: Existence expires

03/04/12  ||  Smalley

Blood Label is a Danish death/thrash/metalcore band, at least according to their Metallum, and if that genre hodgepodge makes them seem like a jack of all aces, master of none type band, you’d be right… ‘cept I wouldn’t even call them jacks. A big thing that hurts them is not having enough deathrash in their sound, and too much rotten ‘core; they have some decent energy, but the riffs don’t excel, with too many “jumpdafuckup!”-style bouncy riffs, and they use way too many cookie-cutter metalcore tricks in their songwriting.

Too many stupid breakdowns undermine the momentum too often, and make the average-length songs seem much longer then they really are, and the castrated screams of their singer are certainly at least mildly annoying, to say the least. With so many other good metal bands active today, both under and aboveground, there’s no need to bother here. Not to imply there isn’t one or two short bright spots lurking here, but in the face of so much generic, average modern metal, it just can’t win.

5/10: I wouldn’t worry about this one.
